毎年12月3日は「国際障害者デー」であり、一方で日本には12月９日を「障害者の日」と定められました。それて「国際障害者デー」の12月3日から「障害者の日」である12月9日までの1週間を「障害者週間」と定められました。

この「障害者週間」一週間は、障害者基本法により、障害や障害のある人への関心と理解を深めるとともに、障害者があらゆる分野の活動に参加することを促進するために、各地で障害者理解啓発の活動が行われます。

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is an international day that is celebrated every year on 3 December，while it is proclaimed as the Day of Persons with Disabilities in Japan on 9 December. Thus the week of 3-9 December has been designated as the "Disability Week'' in Japan.

According to the Basic Act on Persons with Disabilities, this week is held to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects, as well as to encourage persons with disabilities to participate in various activities in the society.
